Men’s Basketball Comeback Falls Short at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I.– Clark University men's basketball (7-6, 2-2 NEWMAC) traveled to Salve Regina (10-2, 3-0 NEWMAC) to complete the Cougars' three-game road trip. The Seahawks took control late in the first half and held off a late Clark run to secure a 70-55 win.

How it Happened

  • Clark came out firing, with a pair of layups by sophomore Boluwasefe John and a three by junior Quentin Pridgen. The Seahawks cut the deficit to one before a three by senior Reid Neumann made it a 10-6 game with 15 minutes to play in the half.

  • The lead reached eight for the Cougars behind four points from junior Malik Matanmi, ending with a layup by first-year David Fridia to make it 18-10 with 9:06 to play in the half.

  • Salve Regina stormed back to take its first lead with a 13-0 run over the next six minutes before a dunk by John broke the scoreless stretch for Clark, which now trailed 23-20.

  • The Seahawks went on another run, this time a 6-0 spurt, to enter halftime in front, 29-20.

  • First-year Aliaun Iscandari got the scoring started with a layup to open the second half, but an ensuing 11-0 Salve Regina run gave the Seahawks their largest lead, 40-22, with 15:58 to play.

  • Clark battled back, with threes by Neumann and sophomore Kyle Squires starting the run, before a three from Iscandari, a layup by junior Emmett Hendry, and four points from John made it a 10-point game with 8:27 to play.

  • Neumann scored six straight points off three free throws and a timely shot from behind the arc to make it a 54-48 game with seven minutes remaining.

  • The Seahawks held on from there, fending off the Cougars to regain a double-digit lead despite layups by Pridgen and Hendry, finishing off a 70-55 win.
