WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University men's basketball (9-6, 4-2 NEWMAC) concluded its two-game road trip with a bout against Wheaton College (9-5, 2-3 NEWMAC). It was a back-and-forth battle with both teams hitting clutch shots in the second half; however, it was Wheaton that had the last say, winning at the buzzer, 68-66.
How it Happened

Clark was able to run out to an 11-7 lead behind back-to-back threes by senior Reid Neumann and first-year Aliaun Iscandari.

The Lyons would briefly take the lead before a dunk from junior Malik Matanmi put the Cougars back in front, 17-16, with 11:04 to play.

Again, Wheaton would regain the lead, but four straight points by sophomore Boluwasefe John, highlighted by a dunk to retake the lead, put Clark back up 27-26.

The Cougars would carry the momentum to the end of the half, with a late Neumann three-pointer giving Clark a 39-30 lead entering the halftime break.

The Lyons would go on a 13-3 run out of halftime, taking a 43-42 lead. A Neumann three would briefly tie the game at 46 before a three by sophomore Kyle Squires tied the game again at 52 with 11:04 to play.

Again, Wheaton would pull in front by two, but an and-one finish by John put the Cougars back in front, 57-56, with 6:37 to play.

Another dunk by Matanmi, followed by a three by Iscandari and a layup from Squires, helped Clark to a four-point cushion with 4:50 to play.

Again, the Lyons would battle back, with a pair of free throws tying the game before a go-ahead layup by Dimitri Lafrate made it 66-64 with 1:09 remaining.

The Cougars would find an answer as Iscandari stole the ball and beat everyone down the court for the game-tying layup with 25 seconds remaining.

While the first game-winning shot attempt was blocked by John with three seconds remaining, the following attempt off the inbound was true, with Erin Morrissey becoming the hero for Wheaton with a fadeaway buzzer-beater in the 68-66 win.
