Women's Basketball Records 56-36 Win Over Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Clark University women's basketball team (12-5, 3-0 NEWMAC) earned their third straight NEWMAC victory with a 56-36 win over Mount Holyoke (4-13, 0-3 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 10-1 lead sparked by three-pointers from sophomore Cyriah Coleman and first-year Atiya Watson as well as made layups from junior Olivia Shipley and first-year Leilani Benson.
  • First-years Karilyn Perez-Guerrero and Gabrielle Watson each scored while sophomore Juliette Tarsa made a free throw and a layup from junior Kailey Rios gave Clark a 17-11 advantage heading into the second quarter.
  • After Mount Holyoke pulled to within four off a made jumper Alex Twomey, the Cougars went on an 11-0 run over a seven-minute stretch led by five points from junior Catherine Antwi as well as points from Atiya Watson, senior Ashley Leighton, and Benson to help Clark take a 30-15 edge into the locker room.
  • In the third quarter, Watson and Benson each netted four points, while Rios, junior Emma Drefs, and junior Bella Galatt also scored as Clark extended their lead to 44-25.
  • Leighton led the way with four fourth quarter points, while Tarsa added three, Drefs, first-year Emerson Webb, and Benson also scored as the Cougars earned their third NEWMAC win of the year with a 56-36 victory.

  • Clark made 22 shots, grabbed 42 rebounds, dished out 14 assists, and forced 29 turnovers.
  • Watson led the Cougars with nine points and six assists.
  • Benson also added nine points and tallied three steals.

The Cougars will return to the court on Wednesday night when they close out a two-game road trip at Springfield beginning at 7:00 p.m.
