NEW LONDON, Conn.– Clark University women's basketball (8-5) traveled to Connecticut College (8-4) for the Cougars' second game of 2026. In a back-and-forth affair, the Camels were able to find a game-winning layup with just one second left in overtime, winning 58-56 after the extra period.
How it Happened

It was a low-scoring start to the game, with a three by junior Kailey Rios giving the Cougars a 5-2 lead four minutes in.

After the Camels tied the game, a layup by first-year Leilani Benson gave Clark a 7-5 lead after a quarter of play.

The offenses heated up in the second quarter, with a three by junior Catherine Antwi and a layup by first-year Atiya Watson giving the Cougars a 14-8 lead with 7:07 to play in the half.

The Camels battled back to tie the game at 19 before a Rios three-pointer gave Clark a 22-19 edge going into halftime.

After Clark gained another small lead, Connecticut College again battled back to tie the game before a layup by junior Olivia Shipley gave the Cougars a 30-28 lead with 4:50 remaining in the third.

Clark would again retake the lead late in the quarter, this time off a triple from junior Mia Mabanag to make it 37-36 headed into the final 10 minutes.

The Cougars continued to play in front, with an and-one finish by Antwi giving Clark a 46-42 lead with 4:52 to play.

Antwi continued to score inside with two late layups, one to take the lead and the other to tie the game with just forty seconds to play. The score remained tied at 50 as the clock expired, sending the game into overtime.

After a 6-0 run by the Camels, a free throw by junior Emma Drefs and a layup by Mabanag cut the deficit to one possession.

With just 28 seconds to play, a clutch three from Mabanag tied the game at 56. The Camels found Hayle Thompson with one second left for the game-winning layup as Connecticut College secured the 58-56 win.
