BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Clark University men's basketball team (7-5, 2-1 NEWMAC) earned their second conference win of the year with a 77-69 victory over Babson (6-5, 0-2 NEWMAC) on Wednesday night from Staake Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- The Cougars and Beavers opened the game by changing leads five times sparked by four points from sophomore Boluwasefe John, a made three-pointer from sophomore Kyle Squires, and a junior Quentin Pridgen layup as the teams were tied 9-9.
- The Beavers answered with a 10-4 run despite points from John and junior Malik Matanmi as they took a 19-13 edge before Clark netted eight unanswered as senior Reid Neumann and first-year David Fridia each hit triples to give the Cougars a 21-19 lead with 7:40 to play.
- After a Ryan Frauenheim three-pointer, John, Neumann, and Squires combined for the squads next nine points to push their advantage to 30-24 before Thomas Ferdinando hit a jumper to make it a six-point game.
- Neumann and Pridgen each hit three-pointers before the half as the Cougars took a 37-29 lead into the locker room.
- First-year Aliaun Iscandari scored 10 of Clark's first 12 points in the second half led by a three-pointer and a converted and-one as the Cougars held a 49-40 advantage with 15:20 remaining.
- Babson pulled to within five before Neumann hit another three-pointer and Iscandari added four more points as the Beavers trailed 57-50 with 10:54 to play.
- John and Squires combined for Clark's next five points to help push the lead back to double-digits at 62-52.
- Iscandari buried another triple and Squires connected from behind the line as the scarlet and white held a 68-56 advantage with 6:30 remaining.
- Babson went on a 9-0 run to pull back withing three at 68-65 before a made dunk off a feed from Neumann with 2:25 to go gave Clark a five-point lead.
- After a forced turnover, Squires buried another three-pointer off a pass from John to make it a 73-65 contest.
