NORTON, Mass. – The Clark University men's soccer team (3-5-3, 1-2-1 NEWMAC) continued NEWMAC play with a trip to WPI (1-4-5, 1-0-2 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers struck first in the 15th minute, scoring what proved to be the only goal of the game as they held on for a 1-0 win at home.

The first shot of the game came from first-year Owen Bergin in the ninth minute, but his attempt sailed wide.

WPI struck in the 15th minute, with Michael Montabana finding Nikolas Previte to put the Engineers in front.

Following a wide shot from first-year Roland Soeiro, senior Jaime Pedraza made his first save of the game in the 27th minute.

First-year Ryan Hoffelder and Geronimo Barroso each sent shots off target to close the half with WPI leading 1-0.

Junior Jordan Adeyemi fired the Cougars' first shot on goal in the opening two minutes of the second half, but his header was saved.

The Engineers had a pair of shots blocked early in the half, while Pedraza added saves in the 61st and 67th minutes to keep the Cougars within striking distance.

Sophomore Shahmeer Waseem put a header on goal, followed by a shot on target from Soeiro two minutes later, but both attempts were saved.

Pedraza added another save in the 78th minute, while Bergin forced a save in the 82nd minute.

The Cougars kept up the pressure over the final minutes, recording five shots, but each was either blocked or sailed wide as WPI held on for the 1-0 win.
