Women's Soccer Registers 3-0 Victory Over Smith on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's soccer (6-3-1, 2-2-1 NEWMAC) hosted Smith (0-9-2, 0-4-1 NEWMAC) in their senior day game on Saturday afternoon and scored three goals as the scarlet and white registered a 3-0 victory from Granger Field.

Prior to the game, seniors Ava Lepro, Gabrielle Huryn, Ainsley Golini, and Sadie Cohen were honored for their contributions to the Clark women's soccer program.

How it Happened
  • Huryn registered her first save off a header from Una Keller in the 14th minute before Golini, juniors Georgia Louis, Selene Hammad, and Madeleine Reeves all created chances over a seven-minute stretch that were stopped by Riley Cioffi-Smith as Clark started to carry the play.
  • Sophomore Kory Lloyd and first-year Caroline Knecht had shots saved before Reeves fired a shot on goal that was saved, but sophomore Calabria Augustino followed up the play with a shot into the right corner of the goal to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage in the 32nd minute.
  • In the 41st minute, Louis dribbled by the Bear defense and netted Clark's second goal of the match and before the half Cohen fired a header on target as the Cougars led 2-0 entering the break.
  • Clark's offense opened the second half with three shots on target within the first 15 minutes as Knecht, sophomore Marcela Gonyea, and sophomore Lillie DeMetrick all created chances before Knecht found the back of the net in the 64th minute to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.
  • Junior Ella Jimenez hit the post with a shot in the 79th minute and Reeves put a shot on target before the end of the match that was stopped by Blair Pasarkar as Clark earned a 3-0 NEWMAC win on senior day.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Cougars recorded 25 shots (16 on target), only allowed one shot on goal and earned eight corner kicks.
  • This was Clark's fourth defensive shutout of the season and third in NEWMAC action.
  • Huryn registered her second consecutive shutout and third of the year.
  • Augustino netted her second goal of the season and fourth of her career.
  • Reeves dished out her second assist this year and third as a Cougar.
  • Louis scored her team-leading seventh goal and has 21 career goals.
  • Knecht netted her fourth goal of the season.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field on Wednesday night when they travel to MIT for a conference contest beginning at 6:00 p.m.
