WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (4-8, 0-4 NEWMAC) traveled across town to take on WPI (8-7, 2-2 NEWMAC) and were bested by the Engineers 3-0 on Saturday afternoon from Harrington Auditorium.
The Cougars fell 25-13 in the first set, were bested 25-15 in the second, and dropped the third 25-17.
How it Happened
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an early 5-4 lead as junior Isabella Alcott and senior Winifred Gakidis each registered kills while senior Katelyn Williams tallied a service ace.
- WPI rattled off 11 unanswered points before Alcott recorded another kill off a feed from senior Julia Dopazo and Williams added three more kills before the end of the set as the Engineers won 25-13.
- Clark trailed 8-6 in the second set despite kills from first-year Julia Crockett, Alcott, and Williams as Dopazo, junior Hannah Harrington, and first-year Cadence Martin.
- In the middle of the set, Gakidis collected a block before Alcott tallied a pair of kills to cut the deficit to 17-11.
- Crockett and Gakidis tallied kills before the end of the set as the Cougars dropped the set 25-15.
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an 8-6 advantage sparked by Martin and Alcott combining for five kills.
- Alcott combined for four of the next six points in the set as she tallied two kills and a service ace as Clark extended their lead to 12-7.
- WPI rattled off eight straight points before Crockett ended the run with a kill off a feed from Harrington as the Engineers took a 15-14 advantage.
- Over the remainder of the set, Williams and junior Abigail Venis each registered kills while Crockett added a block as the Cougars fell 25-17.
Inside the Stats
- Clark tallied 29 kills, 28 assists, 46 digs, and four service aces.
- Alcott registered a team-leading 14 kills and added 13 digs,
- Williams recorded six kills and seven digs,
- Dopazo (12) and Harrington (11) reached double-figures in assists.
- Chinn registered a team-high 14 digs.

The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Mount Holyoke to the Kneller for a contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
