WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (4-9, 0-5 NEWMAC) welcomed Mount Holyoke (7-4, 1-2 NEWMAC) to the Kneller and took a set, but were bested 3-1 by the Lyons on Tuesday night.
The Cougars fell 25-14 in the first set, were bested 25-15 in the second, took the third set 25-16, and dropped the final set 25-22.
How it Happened
- The scarlet and white trailed 9-6 early despite four kills from junior Isabella Alcott and a kill from senior Winifred Gakidis.
- Alcott, first-year Julia Crockett, and Gakidis added kills over the remainder of the set, but the Lyons registered a 25-14 victory in the first set.
- Clark opened the second set with a 3-1 lead as Gakidis and Alcott tallied kills before Mount Holyoke opened up their advantage to 11-7.
- First-year Cadence Martin and senior Julia Dopazo combined for two points to end the run before Crockett, junior Abigail Venis, and Alcott registered kills as well as a combined block from senior Katelyn Williams and Venis as the Cougars fell 25-15.
- The Cougars jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the third set as Williams, Alcott, and Martin off feeds from junior Hannah Harrington.
- The Lyons rallied back to within one before Clark rattled off five unanswered points as Alcott and Crockett tallied kills to take a 17-11 lead.
- Alcott registered three kills and a service ace while senior Harper Chinn added a service ace as the scarlet and white won the third set 25-16.
- Clark jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the fourth set as Williams, Alcott, and Gakidis before the Lyons rallied to pull within two at 10-8.
- The Lyons led 18-14 before the Cougars rattled off three straight points as Williams and Alcott to pull within one, but despite a pair of kills from Alcott Clark was bested 25-22.

- Clark tallied 34 kills, 29 assists, 49 digs, and 10 service aces.
- Alcott registered a team-leading 19 kills and added 11 digs.
- Gakidis added five kills and two blocks.
- Dopazo (18) and Harrington (11) led the squad in assists.
- Williams (12) and Chinn (8) combined for 20 digs.

The Cougars will return to the court on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Eastern Connecticut State for a non-conference contest beginning at 2:00 p.m.
