Forsman Sets Program Record as Women’s Lacrosse Falls in Season Opener to Colby-Sawyer

WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University women's lacrosse (0-1) opened their season with a home matchup with the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer (1-0). After a tight first quarter, the Chargers used a strong second quarter to pull away, ultimately winning 13-4. 

How it Happened

  • First-year Ella Forsman made four saves in the first seven minutes of the game to keep the game scoreless.

  • Colby-Sawyer broke through with Lauren Vignola scoring the first goal with 5:27 to play in the first quarter.

  • Forsman made three more saves in the final five minutes as the opening quarter closed with the Chargers leading 1-0.

  • Vignola netted her second goal of the game on a free-position attempt to make it 2-0 with 12:46 to play in the half. Two minutes later, Cecilia Ponzini scored a woman-up goal to extend the lead to 3-0.

  • Clark got its first goal of the game when a pass from graduate student Meghan Fogarty found first-year Jasmine Peters in front of the net for a quick finish, making it 3-1 with 6:35 remaining.

  • The Chargers added three more goals in the final five minutes of the half, with Elena Bronson, Madeline Knight, and Reese Holcomb each finding the back of the net to send Colby-Sawyer into halftime up 6-1.

  • Colby-Sawyer scored two goals in the third period, both coming on woman-up opportunities from Vignola.

  • Peters netted her second goal of the game to open the fourth quarter but was answered by Holcomb, making it 9-2 with 11:55 remaining.

  • Ponzini and Vignola each scored over the next six minutes to push the lead to 11-2 with 6:35 to play.

  • Clark pulled two goals back as Peters completed her hat trick and Fogarty scored off an assist from senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia.

  • Colby-Sawyer added the final two goals of the game, with Grace Joly and Vignola closing out a 13-4 win for the Chargers.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Cougars fired 14 shots, with nine landing on goal. They held a 10-9 advantage in draw controls, forced 21 turnovers, and scooped up 20 ground balls.

  • Forsman finished with 17 saves in the effort, setting a new program record in her first collegiate game. She surpassed the previous single-game mark of 16 saves, set by Maddie Conner in 2023.

  • Peters also shined in her collegiate debut, netting three goals to lead the Cougars in scoring. She added seven draw controls, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

  • Fogarty recorded a goal and an assist, while Cacciapaglia added a goal to go along with two ground balls and two draw controls.
