Men's Basketball Drops Home Contest to Salve Regina

WORCESTER, Mass.  – The Clark University men's basketball team (12-9, 7-5 NEWMAC) closed out the season series and two-game homestand against Salve Regina (15-5, 8-3 NEWMAC) and led at the half, but the Seahawks rallied back to win 75-70 on Wednesday night from the Kneller Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars opened the contest with a 11-10 lead sparked by four points from both junior Quentin Pridgen and sophomore Boluwasefe John as well as a three from sophomore Kyle Squires before another John layup pushed the lead to three with 15:01 remaining.
  • After seven straight points from the Seahawks, first-year Elijah Small made a layup to end the run and five points from Pridgen, including an and-one layup gave the scarlet and white a 20-19 advantage with 11:35 to go in the half.
  • Salve answered again with four unanswered before John made a layup off a Pridgen feed, but Rowan Linder connected on a shot to extend the Seahawks lead back up to three.
  • Pridgen, first-year Aliaun Iscandari, and Squires combined for Clark's next six points as they trailed by four before ending the half on a 12-4 run sparked by five points from Iscandari, three from senior Reid Neumann, and two from both junior Malik Matanmi and Pridgen as the Cougars took a 40-36 lead into the break.
  • The teams traded buckets over the first five minutes of the second half as Iscandari led the team with four points before a Small layup gave Clark a 49-43 advantage with 14:26 remaining.
  • Sean Seymour scored the next four points of the contest before Neumann hit a pair of triples as the Cougars in the middle of the half to help Clark hold a 57-54 edge with 8:43 to play.
  • Salve scored the next six points of the game before Pridgen and Small combined for five points to help the Cougars regain the lead at 62-60 with 4:24 to go.
  • Seymour and Jack McMullen combined for the next five points of the game before John made a dunk off a feed from Pridgen, but McMullen responded with a triple with 2:28 remaining to give the Seahawks a 68-64 advantage.
  • Iscandari made a layup to cut the deficit to two with 1:26 to go, but Salve scored the next five points of the game to take a seven-point edge.
  • Squires and Small scored the final four points of the contest as the Cougars fell 75-70 to the Seahawks.

  • Clark made 31 shots, grabbed 35 rebounds, and dished out 13 assists, and forced 12 turnovers.
  • Pridgen led the Cougars with 18 points, eight assists, four steals, and added nine rebounds.
  • Iscandari added 15 points, with seven made shots and grabbed four rebounds.
  • John also reached double-figures with 11 points and pulled down six rebounds.
  • Small led the team with 10 rebounds and scored eight points.

The scarlet and white will return to the court on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Coast Guard for a contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
