Women's Lacrosse Registers Thrilling 8-7 Win Over UMass-Boston

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (1-3) returned to Worcester for their first game since Florida and earned their first win of the season with an 8-7 win over UMass Boston (0-5) on Friday night.

How it Happened
  • First-year Ella Forsman tallied a save three minutes into the game before fellow first-year Jasmine Peters got Clark on the board with a goal as they led 1-0.
  • After Forsman added two more saves and sophomore Sydney McMonagle caused a turnover before McMonagle pushed Clark's advantage to 2-0 with 9:27 to go in the quarter.
  • With less than a minute to go in the first, senior Abigail Gallagher ran up the field and found junior Sarah Forrester put the ball in the back of the cage as the Cougars took a 3-0 lead into the second quarter.
  • Senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia netted a man-up goal off a feed from first-year Amelia Corbin to open the second as they pushed their edge to 4-0.
  • Peters, McMonagle, and E. Cacciapaglia all created chances that were stopped in the middle of the second and before the break, UMass Boston scored two goals as they trailed 4-2.
  • Peters registered a man-down goal off a free position shot to push the lead to 5-2 before Teresa Sheedy netted a free position goal with 4:37 to go in the period.
  • Forsman stopped a shot before the end of the quarter and both first-year Maeve McHugh and Peters had shots saved as Clark took a 5-3 edge into the fourth.
  • UMass-Boston scored two goals to open the fourth before McHugh found a cutting E. Cacciapaglia, who found the back of the cage with 8:37 to play as the Cougars held a 6-5 lead.
  • Cadence Kelly scored for UMass-Boston before graduate student Meghan Fogarty scored a man-up goal and McMonagle tallied a goal with 1:35 to go as Clark led 8-6.
  • After a UMass-Boston goal with 0:15 remaining brought them back within one, Clark forced a shot to go wide before the end of the game as they won 8-7.

  • Clark attempted 28 shots, forced 27 turnovers, won nine draw controls, scooped up 23 ground balls, and converted 16 clears.
