Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Fall on Road at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – Clark University men's lacrosse (0-7) traveled north to Colby College (2-3) for a battle with the Mules. The Cougars couldn't overcome a strong start to the game by Colby, ultimately falling 19-4. 

How it Happened

  • After two goals by the Mules to start the contest, a shot from sophomore Maxwell Biondi rang off the post but stayed out of the net.

  • Following three more goals for Colby, junior Eric Aswad recorded the first shot on goal for the Cougars, with senior Brett Newman adding another minutes later.

  • The Mules added two more goals in the final minutes to cap a strong first quarter with a 7-0 advantage.

  • Clark found the back of the net first in the second quarter, with Aswad firing a pass behind him to Newman, who quickly rifled a shot into the back of the net for the Cougars' first goal.

  • The Mules responded, scoring three times over the next five minutes to reach ten goals in the game.

  • Following another goal by Colby, sophomore Michael Berman Annunziata put a shot on goal with 4:55 remaining, and Newman added another with two seconds left in the half, but both were saved as the Mules secured an 11-1 halftime edge.

  • Clark struck first in the second half, with Aswad again assisting, this time sending a pass forward to junior Tate Gorman for a close-range finish.

  • Colby responded with the next five goals of the quarter before Aswad and Gorman linked up again, this time with Gorman assisting Aswad, to make it 16-3 entering the fourth.

  • After two goals from the Mules to open the fourth, junior John Golioto scored unassisted with 7:49 remaining.

  • Following a Colby goal with 6:38 remaining, both offenses quieted as the Mules closed out a 19-4 win.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Cougars fired nine shots on goal, scooped 24 ground balls, and caused five turnovers. 

  • Aswad scored once and assisted on two other goals. This is his second straight game with multiple assists and third game this season with multiple points. 

  • Gorman scored a goal and assisted one, marking the third time this season he has recorded multiple points. 

  • Senior Thomas Michaud scooped a team-high four ground balls in the effort. 

  • Junior Josh Reno played the full game in net, making 14 saves, his fourth game this season with 10+ saves and third game with exactly 14 saves so far this year.

The Scarlet and White return home for a NEWMAC match against Coast Guard on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
