Women's Lacrosse Bested by Smith in NEWMAC Opener

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (2-4, 0-1 NEWMAC) hosted Smith (6-3, 2-0 NEWMAC) in their NEWMAC opener and fell 12-4 to the Bears on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Ava Soch caused a turnover within the first two minutes of action before first-year Ella Forsman tallied her first save of the game.
  • Layna Fitzgerald and Kyra Hawk scored the Bears first two goals of the game before Forsman registered another save as the Cougars trailed 2-0.
  • Senior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia caused a pair of turnovers before the end of the first and first-year Amelia Corbin created a chance that was saved as Smith took a 3-0 edge into the second.
  • After another Bear goal, senior Alexandra Cacciapaglia caused a turnover before passing the ball to first-year Jasmine Peters and Peters nearly got the Cougars on the board with a shot that was saved.
  • Forsman added two more saves before the half and first-year Maeve McHugh and sophomore Paige Kemish each fired shots on goal that were stopped as the Bears took a 7-0 lead into the break.
  • Forsman opened the third with a save and Peters created a pair of chances to open the third before McMonagle fired two shots on target that were saved.
  • McMonagle found E. Cacciapaglia to open the fourth and Cacciapaglia found the back of the cage to make it an 11-1 contest.
  • Junior Sarah Forrester, McMonagle, and graduate student Meghan Fogarty all created chances in the middle of the fourth that were stopped before E. Cacciapaglia added her second and third goals of the game and McMonagle scored on a feed from Kemish as the Cougars fell 12-4.
