Baseball Opens NEWMAC Play With 11-6 Win Over Coast Guard

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (12-5, 1-0 NEWMAC) opened conference play with a come-from-behind 11-6 victory over Coast Guard (5-7, 0-1 NEWMAC) on Tuesday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Junior Jacob Kline took the bump for Clark and tossed a scoreless first before sophomore Cole Camara hit a sacrifice fly to left field that plated senior Dom Mariani as the Cougars took a 1-0 lead.
  • Coast Guard scored six runs between the second and third inning before sophomore Myles Fournier and junior Joseph Winakor both drove in runs to make it a 6-3 contest heading into the fourth.
  • Senior Matthew Donahue tossed a scoreless fourth, fifth, and sixth before Clark's offense exploded for seven runs as junior Michael Salzillo, Mariani, Camara, senior Brayden Hollinrake, Winakor, and senior Alfonso Jalil all picked up RBI's to give the Cougars a 10-6 advantage.
  • Sophomore Robby Roth entered in the seventh and pitched a 1-2-3 inning before Hollinrake hit a sacrifice fly to center that brought home Mariani as Clark led 11-6.
  • Roth pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth as the Cougars prevailed 11-6.

  • Camara, Hollinrake, and Winakor drove in a pair of runs.
  • Mariani scored three runs, while Soares and Camara each reached home twice.
  • Soares and Winakor each registered three hits.
  • Sophomore Taejun Tow (0.2), Donahue (3.0), and Roth (3.0) all allowed no runs in the contest.
  • The win over the Bears was their first since 2023.

The scarlet and white will return to the field on Tuesday when they travel to Coast Guard to close out their season series beginning at 3:30 p.m.
