Men's Lacrosse Bested by Massachusetts Maritime

WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University men's lacrosse (0-9) hosted Massachusetts Maritime Academy (5-2) in the second to last non-conference match up of the season for the Cougars. The Buccaneers used strong starts in each of the last three quarters to secure an 18-11 victory.

How it Happened

  • Clark got the scoring started just two minutes in, as junior Eric Aswad continued his strong stretch of playmaking by finding junior Tate Gorman for the opening goal.

  • After a response by the Buccaneers, Gorman scored again, this time assisted by junior Jason Shackley to make it 2-1 with 10:47 remaining.

  • After two goals from Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA), the latter giving them their first lead, Clark answered. This time, Gorman returned the favor, dishing to Aswad to make it 3-3 with 6:39 to go in the first.

  • The Buccaneers closed the quarter strong with three goals in the final five minutes to lead 6-3 after one.

  • MMA extended the run to five straight goals, scoring twice in the first 90 seconds of the second quarter to take a five-goal lead.

  • Clark stopped the run with Gorman completing a hat trick, this time assisted by sophomore Michael Berman Annunziata. Berman Annunziata then found the back of the net minutes later to cut the deficit to three.

  • Three more goals were scored in the final five minutes of the half—the first two by the Buccaneers and the last with 23 seconds remaining from senior Brett Newman, assisted by Berman Annunziata, to make it 10-6 at the break.

  • The Buccaneers again came out strong in the third, scoring the first two goals before another strike by Gorman, assisted by Berman Annunziata, slowed the momentum.

  • Berman Annunziata continued to dish out assists, this time finding junior John Nolan on the man-up to cut the lead to four.

  • After the deficit briefly grew back to five, junior Zach Sinclair found a late goal for the Cougars to make it 13-9 entering the final quarter.

  • MMA continued its strong quarter starts with three goals in the first three minutes of the fourth. Clark answered with an unassisted goal by senior Thomas Michaud with 10:14 remaining.

  • The Buccaneers closed it out with two more goals before a late score by junior John Golioto, assisted by sophomore Jacob Kaufman, capped the scoring in an 18-11 final.
