Softball Registers a Pair of Non-Conference Wins Over Regis

WESTON, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (9-4) traveled to Regis (2-10) for a pair of non-conference games and registered a pair of wins, tallying a 2-1 victory in eight innings in game one and a 4-2 win in game two on Wednesday night from the Regis Softball Field.

Game One: Clark 2, Regis 1 (F/8)
  • Sophomore Avery Dillon and junior Megan Dube each reached base in the top of the first before the Pride got out of the jam and in the bottom of the first, Dube retired the side in order.
  • Senior Erin Slavin drew a walk in the second and junior Charlise Quigley singled in the third, but Regis was able to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Pride scored a run in the third, but Dube tossed a 1-2-3 fourth before Quigley hit a sacrifice fly that plated sophomore Gricelda Castro in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Dube set down the side in order in the fifth and tossed a scoreless sixth before Quigley singled in the seventh, but Regis again was able to get out of the jam.
  • In the top of the eighth, Dube helped her own cause on the mound with an RBI that brough home Avery Dillon to give Clark a 2-1 advantage.
  • Dube earned the win in the bottom of the eighth as she forced a pop out with two outs to help secure the 2-1 victory.
Game Two: Clark 4, Regis 2
  • Quigley singled and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead and in the bottom of the first, senior Brooke Buezzo got out of a second and third jam to keep Clark in front.
  • Regis tied the game in the bottom of the second and in the top of the third, Quigley registered her second hit of the contest and was left on base as the game remained tied.
  • Buzzeo pitched a scoreless third and fourth before the Pride scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1 advantage.
  • After a scoreless sixth from Buzzeo, Slavin singled in the top of the seventh and scored off an RBI double from senior Madison Dillon to tie the game a 2-2.
  • Gricelda Castro stole second and senior Emelie Spence drew a walk to load the bases with one out before Quigley singled to center field to bring home Spence and Castro to give Clark a 4-2 advantage.
  • Buzzeo tossed a scoreless seventh to help the scarlet and white secure the series sweep with a 4-2 win over Regis.
What's Next
The Cougars will open NEWMAC play on Saturday when they travel to Coast Guard for a pair of games beginning at 12:00 p.m.
