WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University men's lacrosse (1-10) welcomed Emmanuel (5-5) to Granger field for the last non-conference game of the season for both squads. The Cougars dominated the first quarter and never looked back on their way to a 15-7 win at home.
How it Happened
-
Clark wasted no time, striking just 35 seconds into the game as a shot from senior Brett Newman found the net off a feed from sophomore Michael Berman Annunziata.
-
Berman Annunziata added another highlight soon after, firing a no-look, over-the-head shot while facing away from the net that somehow found the back of the goal like a magnet to metal.
-
Two goals were scored within five seconds of each other at the 12:18 and 12:13 marks, starting with a junior Tate Gorman assist to senior Thomas Michaud and ending with sophomore Spencer Arzanipour winning the ensuing faceoff and racing downfield for an unassisted strike to double the Cougars' lead.
-
At the 9:25 mark, Clark extended the lead to 5-0, with Berman Annunziata finding junior Luke Nufer for another goal. Emmanuel got on the board at the 6:30 mark, cutting the deficit to four.
-
The final two goals of the first quarter belonged to the Cougars, beginning with an assist from junior Eric Aswad to Michaud with four minutes remaining. Then juniors John Golioto and John Nolan linked up, with Nolan's goal making it 7-1 after one.
-
Clark also netted the first two goals of the second quarter, with Gorman and Michaud connecting for a second time before a pass from Berman Annunziata found junior Zach Sinclair to make it 9-1 with 10 minutes left in the half.
-
The Saints added two goals over the next two minutes to cut into the lead, but Aswad responded off an assist from Sinclair with 6:21 remaining. Emmanuel closed the half with a goal at the 1:10 mark, making it 10-4 at halftime.
-
Emmanuel carried that momentum into the third, scoring at 11:15 and 6:46 to cut the deficit to four for the first time since the opening quarter.
-
The run would stop there, as Michaud and Gorman connected for a third time. Gorman then took a pass from Nufer and scored the final goal of the third quarter, giving Clark a 12-6 lead heading into the final fifteen minutes.
-
Clark continued the momentum in the fourth, adding a goal just over a minute in as Golioto found sophomore Maxwell Biondi for the score. A minute later, Berman Annunziata connected with Newman to push the lead to eight.
-
Berman Annunziata added an unassisted goal for Clark's 15th of the game with seven minutes to play. Emmanuel scored once more with 48 seconds remaining, but that would be the final tally as the Cougars secured a 15-7 victory.
