Softball Drops Both Games in Doubleheader Against MIT

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University softball team (11-12, 1-7 NEWMAC) hosted MIT (23-3, 9-1 NEWMAC) for a weekend doubleheader and battled with the Engineers in both games, but dropped both games on Saturday afternoon from O'Brien Field.

Game One: MIT 4, Clark 1
  • The Engineers scored a run in the top of the first as Ava Ladd hit a sacrifice fly that plated Delaney Benevides before sophomore Avery Dillon roped a double to left center, but was left on base.
  • Senior Brooke Buzzeo tossed a 1-2-3 second and pitched a scoreless third before MIT scored two runs in the fourth to push their advantage to 3-0.
  • After a scoreless fifth and sixth, senior Emelie Spence and A. Dillon each singled, with Spence stealing third, but the Engineers got out of the inning.
  • MIT added one more run in the seventh and in the bottom half, junior Megan Dube singled and sophomore Avery Della Piana drew a walk before both junior Jennifer Albano and senior Sydney Lyons pinch ran, with Albano scoring on a fly ball hit by senior Erin Slavin as the Cougars fell 4-1.
Game Two: MIT 6, Clark 0
  • Ava Ladd belted a two-run homer to left field in the top of the first and added another run in the second before Dube hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the inning and senior Caitriona Andre pinch ran, but was unable to score as she was thrown out at home.
  • Dube tossed a scoreless third and fourth before hitting her second double of the game and stole third, but was left on base as Sharona Huang got out of the inning.
  • After another scoreless inning from Dube, Slavin singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but again Huang was able to get out of the jam.
  • MIT added two more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh as they tallied a 6-0 win.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will return to the field on Wednesday when they travel to Framingham State for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
