Della Piana Drives in Four in 5-3 Game Two Win at Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Clark University softball (12-13) traveled to Framingham State (12-14) for a midweek non-conference doubleheader with the Rams. Framingham won the pitchers' duel in game one by a 1-0 score, with Clark pulling away in extras to earn the split with a 5-3 win in game two.

How it Happened (Game One)

  • Following a scoreless first inning, the Rams opened the scoring, using two walks to put a runner in scoring position before bringing her home on an RBI single to right field.

  • The third and fourth innings were scoreless, with senior Brooke Buzzeo punching out the final two hitters of the fourth to keep the deficit at one.

  • Both teams put runners on third in the fifth, but neither could bring them home in another scoreless frame.

  • Following a hitless sixth, senior Felicia Salvati and sophomore Avery Della Piana both singled in the top of the seventh. However, the tying run was stranded at second as Framingham State secured the 1-0 win in the opening game.

How it Happened (Game Two)

  • Again, it was the Rams who struck first, using a single and an RBI double to plate a run in the bottom of the first.

  • After a scoreless second inning, Framingham put a runner on via walk, moved her to second on a bunt, and scored her on a single to make it 2-0 after three.

  • Senior Erin Slavin singled to lead off the fourth, with a double by junior Megan Dube putting both runners in scoring position. Slavin and Dube each came home on a single from Della Piana, tying the game at 2-2.

  • Dube kept the game tied in the circle, with the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings all scoreless to send the game into extras.

  • The Cougars' offense returned in the eighth, as a grounder from sophomore Gricelda Castro brought home junior Charlise Quigley for the go-ahead run. After the bases were loaded, Della Piana singled home two more, with senior Emelie Spence and junior Jennifer Albano scoring to make it 5-2.

  • A double by the Rams plated the ghost runner in the bottom of the inning, but three straight outs, including a strikeout by Dube, closed the door as Clark secured the 5-3 win.

Inside the Box Score (Game 1 & 2)

  • Buzzeo pitched all six innings of game one, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out nine.
