NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (18-12, 5-6 NEWMAC) traveled to the New England Baseball Complex for the first of a two-game series against Emerson (6-20, 2-11 NEWMAC) and registered an 11-6 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
How it Happened
- Clark's offense exploded for five runs in the top of the first as sophomore Cole Camara, senior Brayden Hollinrake, sophomore Myles Fournier, and junior Chas Caron each registered RBI's, with Caron's being a two-RBI ground-rule double.
- First-year Tyler Hansen got the ball for the Cougars and retired the Lions in order in the bottom of the first and after Emerson scored a run in the second, Fournier belted a two-run homer to left center that brought home Camara as Clark took a 7-1 lead.
- Hansen tossed a scoreless third and after Emerson scored a run in the fourth, Hollinrake and Fournier each singled in the fifth, but were left on base.
- The Cougars added two more runs in the top of the sixth as sophomore Bennett Hewett and senior Michael Soares each drove in runs to push the advantage to 9-2 and Hansen threw a scoreless sixth inning.
- In the top of the seventh, senior Alfonso Jalil, Caron, and senior Dom Mariani each reached base, but the Lions were able to get out of the inning before Hansen registered his fifth scoreless inning of the contest.
- First-year Theodore Allan pitched a scoreless eighth and in the top of the ninth, Jalil belted a homer to left field and sophomore Bennett Hewett scored on a wild pitch as the Cougars took an 11-2 lead into the bottom half.
- Emerson plated four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but was not enough as Clark registered an 11-6 victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Fournier went 3-5 with three RBI's, a homer, a double, and two runs scored.
- Camara registered a pair of hits, scored two runs, drove in one, and stole three bases.
- Jalil tallied two hits, a homer, drove in and scored a run.
- Hollinrake, Hewett, and Caron each added two hits.
- Hansen tossed 7.0 IP, struck out five batters, and only allowed two runs.
