Baseball Registers Series Sweep With 12-2 Win Over Emerson

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University baseball team (20-15, 6-8 NEWMAC) closed out their season series with Emerson (6-23, 2-12 NEWMAC) and registered a convincing 12-2 victory in eight innings on Tuesday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • First-year Tyler Hansen tossed a 1-2-3 first and second before junior Joseph Winakor and sophomore Myles Fournier each tallied singles in the bottom half of the inning, but were left on base.
  • Hansen pitched a scoreless third before Emerson took a 1-0 lead as Liam Curley registered an RBI single in the fourth.
  • Clark answered with five runs in the bottom half as junior Joseph Winakor recorded an RBI and fellow junior Michael Salzillo registered an inside-the-park homer to take a 5-1 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, senior Brayden Hollinrake and Fournier each recorded RBI's to extend the lead to 7-1.
  • After a run from Emerson in the sixth, Clark added three more runs as senior Michael Soares belted a three-run homer to left center as they took a 10-2 advantage into the seventh.
  • Senior Matthew Donahue pitched a scoreless seventh and junior Chas Caron tossed a scoreless eighth before Clark walked it off as sophomore Cole Camara registered a walk-off double that plated Soares as the Cougars registered a 12-2 victory.

  • Camara registered four doubles, scored three runs, and drove in a run.
  • Soares belted his program-best 13th homer of the season, drove in three runs, and scored two.
  • Hollinrake registered three hits, a triple, scored two runs, and drove in two.
  • Salzillo hit his seventh homer of the year, tallied four RBI's, two hits, and stole a base.
  • Hansen pitched 6.0 innings and only allowed two runs.
  • Donahue and Caron each pitched an inning and struck out two batters each.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will close out the regular season with a series against Wheaton on Saturday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
