Women's Soccer Falls to Wesleyan on Sunday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's soccer (2-1-0) welcomed Wesleyan (2-0-0) to Granger in a Sunday non-conference matchup and played the Cardinals tough for 90 minutes, but ultimately fell 4-3 in a back-and-forth high scoring affair.

How it Happened
  • Senior Ava Lepro stopped her first shot of the contest in the sixth minute before Beatrix Delaney found the back of the net in the 11th minute on a ball serviced in by Juliette Sullivan as Wesleyan led 1-0.
  • Junior Georgia Louis nearly tied the match in the 14th minute with a shot on target that was saved by Marley Hansard and Lepro tallied two more saves before Maria Utz scored to extend their advantage to 2-0 in the 35th minute.
  • Savannah Hyon found the back of the net in the 40th minute and Lepro added one more save before the break as Wesleyan led 3-0.
  • In the 50th minute, junior Madeleine Reeves fired a free kick into the top right corner of the net past Maggie Di rienzo to cut the Cougar deficit to 3-1.
  • Senior Gabrielle Huryn registered a save three minutes later before sophomore Calabria Augustino found junior Solimar Rivera up the right sideline and Rivera sent a ball towards the left side of the goal that got past an outstretched Di rienzo as Clark made it a 3-2 contest.
  • Junior Selene Hammad nearly tied the contest with a header in the box that was stopped by Di rienzo before Reeves sent a ball down the sideline to Louis in the 71st minute and Louis found the back of the net to tie the game at 3-3.
  • Clark continued to apply pressure in the 78th minute as Reeves had a shot saved before Wesleyan struck in the 86th minute as Savannah Hyon sent a ball into the box that found Taylor Hill and Hill snuck the ball into the right corner of the net to push the visitors to a 4-3 victory.

  • The Cougars recorded 12 shots (six on target) and drew 16 fouls.
  • Reeves scored her third career goal and picked up her second career assist.
  • Rivera's goal was her second of the year and ninth as a Cougar.
  • Louis tallied her second goal of the season and 16th of her career.
  • Augustino's assist was her first of the year and seventh as a Cougar.
  • Lepro and Huryn combined for five saves in the contest.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the pitch on Wednesday night when they travel across town to take on Worcester State beginning at 7:00 p.m.
