Worcester, Mass. - In a much-anticipated
meeting of two teams expected to vie for NCAA Tournament bids,
Clark and NEWMAC rival WPI played to a 1-1 tie in a men's soccer
matchup on Saturday afternoon on Granger Field.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead on sophomore Adrian Blackadar's (Warwick, R.I.) first goal of the season off a
free kick from Tim Doenmez (Dublin, N.H.) at the
34:15 mark.
WPI answered back moments before the first half ended when Tommy
Zajac (Merrimack, N.H.) served in a pass that was headed home by
Mike Ford (Whitman, Mass.) for his fourth goal of the year.
Things remained the same for the remainder of regulation and both
overtimes as both teams missed on scoring opportunities.
The game was even all around, as Clark held a slight edge in shots
(11-10) and WPI had a 6-5 lead in corner kicks.
Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) made three saves for
the Cougars while Paul Moan (Watertown, Mass.) turned back two for
the Engineers.
Clark's record goes to 8-3-1 overall (1-2-1 NEWMAC) and WPI now
sits at 9-2-1 (2-0-1 NEWMAC).
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday when they host Johnson
& Wales while the Engineers host Fitchburg State on
Thursday.
