Sixth Sense - Clark Extends Unbeaten Streak With 3-0 Win

Worcester, Mass. - Seniors Kerri Moy (Newton, Mass.) and Charlotte Bowman (Peterborough, N.H.) scored goals less than three minutes apart and classmate Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine) recorded her sixth shutout of the season as Clark remained moved to 4-0-1 in NEWMAC action with a 3-0 win over visiting Smith on Tuesday evening on Granger Soccer Field.

The win extends the Cougars unbeaten streak to six matches as they improve to 8-4-1, while the Pioneers dip to 3-8-1 and 2-2-1 in conference games. The eight wins for Clark surpasses their win total from a season ago when they advanced to the conference semifinals.

Now ranked tenth in New England in the most recent NCSAA poll, the Cougars got on the board in the 31st minute when Bowman served in a free kick that was knocked around in front of the goal until Moy gained control and fired a shot that beat Smith goalkeeper Lindsay Gregor.

Moments later, Bowman - again on a free kick - lofted a shot that curled around the right post past Gregor for her first goal of the season and a 2-0 Cougar lead.

Smith's best scoring chance came in the 59th minute, when Eleanor Theurer took a breakaway and dribbled around Clark but her shot on an open net went wide leaving the score 2-0.

Clark's third score of the match came when reserve sophomore Rachel Minsky (Bronx, N.Y.) found graduate student Kari Mruz (Hingham, Maine) inside the box for a goal at 76:28.

The Cougars held a 14-8 edge in shots and 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Clark had another excellent game between the pipes, turning back three shots for her fourth consecutive shutout, while extending her scoreless streak to 453:02.

The Cougars will now embark on a difficult stretch in their schedule. Three of their final four remaining regular season matches are away from home beginning with Saturday's matchup with Wheaton - the fifth ranked team in New England according to the NSCAA.
