New London, Conn. - Sixth-seeded Clark
outscored third-seeded Coast Guard 3-1 in penalty kicks after
playing to a 1-1 tie to advance to the New England Women's and
Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament semifinals.
Clark senior Devin
Weafer (Carmel, N.Y.) and Coast Guard senior Brandon
McMillan each scored in the first round of penalty kicks.
Both teams missed in round two before sophomore Adrian
Blackadar (Pilgrim, R.I.) scored and Cougar goal
keeper Ryan
King (Brimfield, Mass.) stopped a second straight shot
for a 2-1 edge.
Coast Guard keeper Tim Olah made a stop in the fourth round, but
King came up big again with his third straight stop.
Graduate student Mike
Trobagis' (Acton, Mass.) blasted one past Olah to end
the match in the fifth round.
Clark (9-6-2) opened the scoring in the 21st minute on a goal by
Tim
Doenmez (Dublin, N.H.) with senior John
Machado (Bristol, Conn.) assisting on the only goal of
the first half.
The Bears tied the match just 3:21 into the second half on a goal
by junior Nick Devine, his team-leading tenth of the season.
Sophomore Brett Godiksen had his team best tenth assist on the
goal.
Coast Guard (8-9-1) outshot Clark 13-9. King made eight saves while
Olah finished with five.
Clark will take on second-seeded Wheaton in the NEWMAC tournament
semifinals on Saturday at top-seeded Babson.
