Worcester, Mass. - Visiting Nichols College
scored a pair of goals six minutes apart midway through the first
half to erase an early deficit and collect a 2-1 win over Clark
University in non-conference field hockey action on Thursday
evening at Granger Field.
With the win, the Bison improve to 6-0, while the Cougars dip to
2-3.
After winning nine straight against Nichols, Clark has now dropped
three in a row to their area rival.
Things started out well for Clark, as senior Lauren Blake (Windham, Maine) found the back of the cage just 11
minutes into the game, giving the Cougars the an early 1-0 lead.
That goal snapped a 207:48 minute shutout streak for Nichols
goalkeeper Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) that spanned parts
of four games.
The Bison tied the game less than seven minutes later on a penalty
stroke from Sara Bailey (Athol, Mass.). Then, at the 24:06 mark,
Lauren Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) set up her sister, Chelsea, for the
game-winning score.
Nichols controlled the ball for extended periods of the contest,
registering 19 shots, compared to just nine for the Cougars.
Forand made six saves in all to pick up the win, while
Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) turned
back ten shots for Clark.
Nichols returns to action on Saturday when they host Endicott,
while the Cougars don't return to play until September 29 with a
meeting with Anna Maria.
