Leicester, Mass. - Freshman forward David
Ferreira scored his first collegiate goal to break a 1-1 tie and
give Anna Maria College a 2-1 victory over Clark University in game
one of the 2009 Worcester City Men's Soccer Tournament held at
Becker College's Alumni Field.
Clark's senior midfielder Jeremy
Radovsky (South San Francisco, Calif.) scored the
first goal at the five and a half minute mark to give the Cougars a
quick 1-0 lead. Teammate William
Van Noppen (Providence, R.I.) collected his first
college assist on the play.
Anna Maria tied the game just shy of the 20 minute mark on a goal
from George Markopoulos.
Ferreira's goal at the 78 minute was spectacular - he headed the
ball inside the left corner past Clark's goaltender Baran
Cansever (Southboro, Mass.) from a great pass from
Jonathan Alexandre after an AMCATS throw in deep in Cougar
territory.
AMC goaltender Eric Perkins robbed Clark freshman Gianluca
Ranallo (Scarsdale, N.Y.) with a point blank save with
less than 30 seconds to play to preserve the victory. Perkins
finished with nine stops.
On Sunday, September 6, Clark (0-1) will face Becker College at
2:30 PM and Anna Maria College (1-0) will take on WPI at noon. Both
games will be played on AMC's campus.
