Worcester, Mass. - Assumption senior attack
Kevin Klaskin scored four goals and added two assists to lead
Assumption College past Clark University, 13-7, in the
non-conference opener for both teams Saturday the Multi-Sport
Stadium.
Sophomore midfielder Tom Guido and junior midfielder Nick Violandi
added three goals each for the Greyhounds.
Clark was paced by sophomore attack Phil Winslow
(North Providence, R.I.) and graduate student Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.), who scored two goals each for
the Cougars.
The teams traded three goals in the first period as sophomore
midfielder Alejandro Ruiz opened the scoring for the Hounds just
1:45 into the game on a brilliant individual effort. Winslow tied
the game with 11:32 left in the period on a feed from senior attack
Garrett McAdam (Portland, Maine).
Violandi and Guido gave the Greyhounds a two-goal advantage before
senior midfielder Chris Adams (Bradford, N.H.) and
McAdam with 1:47 left tied the game at 3-3.
The Greyhounds dominated the second period outscoring their
crosstown rivals 7-1, as Klaskin scored a "natural" hat-trick in
the middle.
Winslow scored the lone Cougar goal.
Also scoring for the Greyhounds were sophomore midfielder John
Ryan and junior attack Gaetano Giambrocco.
Also scoring for Clark was sophomore midfielder Chris Johnson (Amherst, Mass.).
Junior goalkeeper Scott Vogelmade nine saves for the Greyhounds,
while sophomore keeper Andrew DeVito (Glastonbury,
Conn.) had 12 for the Cougars.
Assumption outshot Clark, 41-21. The Cougars will return to action
on Saturday, March 13 when they visit Farmingdale State.
