Norton, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's
tennis team won for the eighth time in its last nine matches,
blanking New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)
foe Clark University, 9-0 on Saturday at the Clark Tennis
Courts.
The Lyons improved to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the league, while the
visiting Cougars fell to 2-5 and 0-3.
Wheaton quickly pulled out to a 3-0 lead, yielding a total of seven
games during a trio of doubles victories. Senior James Little and
junior Gregory Poulin blanked their foes in the second
position.
At the top spot, senior Kyle Hudgins and sophomore Neall Oliver
notched an 8-3 victory, while juniors Harry Altman and Brian Krantz
were triumphant by an 8-4 count at number three.
In singles action, Oliver earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at one, Hudgins
downed his third-slot foe, 6-2, 6-3, and Krantz nabbed a 6-1, 6-1
triumph at five. Cougar freshman Dan Hall
(Sutton, Mass.), making his first collegiate appearance in singles
play, dropped a straight set decision (6-0, 6-0) to Altman.
Clark returns to the courts on Monday when they host Coast Guard in
a match that was rescheduled from March 27.
