Worcester, Mass. - Clark graduate student
Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) scored five goals -
including the 100th of his career - as the Cougars bounced back
from Saturday's gut-wrenching loss to Lasell with a convincing 20-3
win over visiting Emerson College on Wednesday afternoon in
non-conference men's lacrosse action on Granger Field.
Roche, who added two assists to his scoring line, closed in on
becoming the school's all-time leading scorer, finishing the night
with 175 career points, just three shy of the standard set by both
Mike Maltais in 1991 and tied by Joe Figler in 2000.
Roche and the Cougars got on the board almost immediately as
Matt Fields (Oceanfields, N.Y.) took the opening
faceoff and raced down the field, finding Roche for the game's
first tally just nine seconds in.
Phil Winslow (Providence, R.I.) and Danny Heelan (Avon, Conn.) then scored back-to-back goals less
than a minute apart to stake Clark to a 3-0 lead in the contest's
first five minutes.
The Cougar offense kept rolling as Chris Johnson
(Amherst, Mass.) scored the game's next two goals and Heelan added
another for a 6-0 Clark edge.
Roche then deposited two goals in the waning minutes of the first
period, including a score with 15 seconds remaining.
Dan Gold finally got the Lions on the board when he teamed up with
Zoe Fisk to make the score 8-1 in the second period.
Clark then scored the game's next eight goals spanning the second
and third periods as six different Cougars including Jacky Cheng (Wilmington, Del.), Nick Figliola
(Weston, Conn.), Winslow, Johnson, Garrett McAdam
(Portland, Maine) and JC Tsagarakis (Stonington,
Conn.), all found the back of the net.
Fisk and Gold scored back-to-back goals for Emerson before
Hakeem Hindi (Houston, Texas), Chris Adams (Bradford, N.H.), McAdam and Nick Olear (West Hartford, Conn.) finished out the scoring.
Andrew DeVito (Glastonbury, Conn.) made five
saves in goal for the Cougars, before giving way to Nick Voigt (West Hartford, Conn.) in the fourth period, who
made a pair of stops as well.
Brenden Campbell made ten saves in defeat for the Lions.
Clark returns to action on Saturday with a road trip to Norwich,
while Emerson travels to Husson College for a meeting on
Sunday.
