Worcester, Mass. - 11-time defending New
England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference men's tennis
champion, Massachusetts Institiute of Technology, extended its
conference winning streak with a 9-0 win over host Clark on the
final day of the 2010 regular season for both teams.
MIT swept all three doubles matches and had an easy time in singles
action with the exception of a hard fought battle at No. 1 where
Clark freshman Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) was locked
in a battle with Ken Van Tilburg. After dropping the first set,
6-4, Angel roared back to take a 7-6 decision in the second set,
setting up the deciding third. Van Tilburg, however, was able to
escape with the 10-7 decision.
The Engineers, who improve to 12-1 with the win, have earned a
first-round bye in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament, while the
Cougars, now 4-8 overall, will face Coast Guard on Thursday
afternoon in New London. MIT will face the winner of the No. 4/No.
5 matchup between Babson and Springfield.
