Babson Park, Mass. - The Babson College men's
tennis team earned its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) victory of the season on Tuesday, as the
Beavers defeated visiting Clark University, 7-2, in the first
league contest of the spring for both teams.
With the victory, Babson improved to 4-8 overall, while Clark fell
to 2-3.
The Beavers recorded a sweep of doubles play to start the match,
including 8-2 wins by senior captain Ken Lin and junior Austin
Conti at number two and sophomore Taylor Dutton and first-year Zach
Ringer at three. The closest battle in doubles play took place at
number one, where the Babson duo of senior captain Brian Lafayette
and junior Justin Albert edged out Clark's tandem of Diego
Angel (Lima, Peru) and Harris
Rollinger (Lexington, Mass.), 9-7.
Clark got on the board by winning two of the top three singles
matchups, including a 6-3, 6-4 win by Angel at number one and a
6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-3) super-breaker win by Rollinger at three.
However, Babson clinched the match by winning the remaining four
contests, with first-year Simeon Human prevailing at number two,
6-1, 6-0, sophomore Danny Schneider winning at four, 6-2, 6-1,
first-year Rushab Tanna earning a 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5)
super-breaker victory at five, and senior Edwin Lee cruising to a
6-0, 6-2 win at six.
