Babson Park, Mass. – Clark University All-American diver Eileen Garcia (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore sensation Gabriela Jijon-Nemalceff (Quito, Ecuador) have been named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's diver and swimmer of the week respectively, it was announced by the conference office on Monday evening.
Garcia has not missed a beat, continuing to perform at an All-America level. She swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter events at both of the Cougars' two meets thus far.
In a 136-101 win over Babson, she posted scores of 288.90 (1-meter) and 292.50 (3-meter). Then in a 154-77 victory at Bridgewater State, she registered marks of 257.45 (1-meter) and 294.15 (3-meter).
Jijon-Nemalceff, meanwhile, has continued to build on her standout freshman campaign. She was victorious in every race she entered since the season began. In a 136-101 win over Babson, she won two individual events and tacked on a relay win. Then in the 154-77 win over Bridgewater State, she claimed first in her only event.
Against Babson, she was first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.46) and the 100-butterfly (1:02.40). She then helped lead the Cougars to a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.00). She then finished first in her lone race against Bridgewater State, the 200-yard IM (2:21.53).
The honor for Jijon-Nemalceff is her first, while Garcia picks up her ninth weekly honor from the conference.
Both will be back in the pool on Saturday when the Cougars take part in a three-team event with Roger Williams and Wellesley.
