Babson Park, Mass. – The Babson College men's tennis team secured its first league victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, as the Beavers toppled visiting Clark University, 7-2, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference contest at the Farwell Courts.
With its second win in as many days, Babson improved to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in league play, while the Cougars sank to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC.
Babson began the day with a sweep of doubles play, including a closely-fought 9-7 win at number two by the tandem of senior captain Austin Conti (Murray Hill, N.J.) and junior Nissim Cohen-Sabban (Chula Vista, Calif.).
Sophomores Mitchell Henry (Wellesley, Mass.) and Simeon Human (Trelex, Vaud, Switzerland) added an 8-5 victory at number one, while junior captain Danny Schneider (Littleton, Mass.) and sophomore Rushab Tanna (Burlington, Mass.) teamed up on an 8-3 win at three.
The Beavers put the contest away by taking four of the six singles matches. Conti won at two, 6-3, 6-3, Human won at three, 6-2, 6-3, Cohen-Sabban prevailed at four, 6-0, 6-0, and Tanna cruised at six, 6-1, 6-0.
Clark's two points both came in singles competition. Sophomore Dan Paradee (Gardiner, Maine) won in straight sets at number five, 6-0, 6-3, while sophomore Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) rallied from an opening-set defeat to edge Henry, 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6) in the number one position.
