Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University took two doubles matches and won four of the six singles matches en route to a 6-3 win over Gordon College on Monday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.
The win for the Cougars avenges a 5-4 loss to the Fighting Scots last season in Wenham. Clark improves to 3-9 overall, while Gordon slips below .500 at 8-9.
Diego Angel and Dan Paradee have teamed up of late at No. 1 doubles and improved to 2-1 as a tandem with an 8-3 win over Carl Quinion ante Nate Musser.
Bram Smith and Spencer Brightman posted an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles, besting the Fighting Scot combination of Kenny Gaudio and Josh Cornwall.
Gordon's lone victory in doubles came at No. 2 on the strength of a Gary Gaudio and Eric Musser 8-6 triumph over Harris Rollinger and Dan Hall.
Angel rolled to a straight set victory at No. 1 singles over Gary Gaudio (6-0, 6-2), while Paradee, playing at No. 5 singles, also posted a straight set victory against Nate Musser (6-3, 6-4).
The Cougars' Aaron Chin and Gordon's Kenny Gaudio went three sets, with Chin eventually pulling out the 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3, while Eric Musser and Hall's three set match went to the Fighting Scots, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Rollinger and Carl Quinion also went to the third set with, Rollinger posting a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 victory.
Clark, winners of two of their last three matches, will host NEWMAC rival Springfield College on Wednesday, while Gordon returns to conference play as well with a visit to Salve Regina on Tuesday.
