Cougars Roll Past Becker, 8-1

Worcester, Mass.- Clark University won consecutive matches for the first time this season on the heels of an 8-1 victory over Worcester-area rival Becker College on Tuesday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.

The Cougars improve to 5-10 overall, while the Hawks dip to 4-8 and have now dropped three straight matches. Now in their fourth season under head coach Mickey Cahoon, Clark has won its most matches since 2006. After dropping the first five matches of the season, the Cougars have gone 5-5 over their last ten.

Clark won all three doubles matches with ease, as the No. 1 tandem of Harris Rollinger (Lexington, Mass.) and Dan Paradee (Gardiner, Maine) defeated Brian Piquette and Jake Gilbert, 8-1. Aaron Chin (Hong Kong, China) and Nathan Maltais (Seabrook, N.H.) followed suit at No. 2, taking down Tim Howard and Branden Parkhouse by the same score.

George Arno (Stoneham, Mass.) and Dana Ferranti (Wilmington, Mass.) put the finishing touches on the doubles sweep, posting an 8-3 win over Matt Graham and Devon Dubuque.

The singles matches went pretty much the same, as Clark took five of the six matches en route to victory.

Chin handled Gilbert at No. 1 singles, recording a straight set win (6-1, 6-1), and Paradee was even more efficient, taking Howard in straight sets as well, 6-1, 6-0.

Maltais also posted a straight set win at No. 3 over Parkhouse, 6-1, 6-3.

Playing at No. 4, Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.) won his first set 6-3 over Piquette before dropping the second 6-2. He then took the match 10-3 in the third and final set.

Jai Sung Lee had some trouble with Graham before registering a 6-4, 7-6 win at No.5.

Becker's Sean Comer notched the Hawks' lone win, defeating Shawn Perry (South Windsor, Conn.) in three sets, 5-7, 6-3 and 10-8.

Clark will wrap up its 2011 season with Friday's home match with Coast Guard at 3:30 p.m.
