Cougars' Season Ends With 5-4 Loss To Coast Guard

Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Coast Guard Academy wrapped up the 2011 NEWMAC regular season with a 5-4 win over Clark University on Friday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 10-9 overall and 3-2 in league play with the win – a match that ended less than 24 hours before Coast Guard opens up conference tournament play against Wheaton.

Clark, meanwhile, who entered the match winners of three of its last four, ends its season at 5-11 overall and 0-5 in conference action.

The Bears won two of the three doubles matches, including at No.1 where Chris Hoffman and Blake Mauer defeated Harris Rollinger and Dan Hall, 8-5.

Coast Guard's other doubles victory was at No. 2 behind Anthony Foss and Matt Faha's 8-3 win over Bram Smith and Spencer Brightman.

Clark's doubles win came at No. 3 as Nathan Maltais and Dan Paradee teamed up to register an 8-0 win over Eric Oredsen and Amanda Robinson.

Each team won three singles matches, with No. 1 singles being the only matchup that wasn't won in straight sets. Rollinger won the first set 6-4, but Hoffman rebounded to win the match with a 6-4 win in the second set and a 6-3 win in the third.

Mauer took down Aaron Chin at No. 2, 6-0, 6-3 and Faha won at No. 4 over Maltais with a 7-5, 6-4 decision.

For Clark, Brightman defeated Oredsen 6-1, 6-1 at No.5 and Smith posted a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Robinson. The Cougars' other victory came at No. 3 singles with Paradee collecting a 6-2, 6-1 win over Foss.
