Box Score North Dartmouth, Mass. - Junior attacker Nick Brett and freshman attacker Adam Niden scored a game-high five goals each as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Clark, 15-7, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Wednesday evening.
The Corsairs took a 3-0 lead to open the game, but the Cougars answered back with goals from freshman Tim Day (Hallowell, Maine) and Danny Heelan (Avon, Conn.) in a three minute span, making the score 3-2 with 4:00 left in the first quarter.
The teams exchanged goals during the second quarter until Niden buried his second goal of the game with 27 seconds remaining in the first half, sending the squads into the break with the Corsairs leading 7-5.
UMass Dartmouth carried their offensive momentum into the third quarter, netting five goals in the period, two coming by way of Niden. UMD added three goals in the fourth quarter, two coming from the stick of Brett, en route to the 15-7 victory.
Senior attacker Josh Arsenault added two goals and two assists for UMD, while junior midfielder Alex Reposa, sophomore defender Larry Gilvarg and freshman midfielder Todd Davis also scored during the contest.
Phil Winslow (Providence, R.I.) had a goal and two assists for Clark, while Heelan and Chris Johnson (Amherst, Mass.) contributed a goal and an assist in the loss.
Eugene Arsenault (South Portland, Maine), Jeffery Wasson (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Ryan Connery (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) added markers for Clark.
The Corsairs outshot the Cougars, 35-28. Sophomore goalkeeper Pete Foley made 11 stops for UMD. Clark goalkeeper Andrew DeVito (Glastonbury, Conn.) played the first half, making five saves while freshman goalkeeper Kevin Ranta (Beverly, Mass.) made six saves in the second half.
UMass Dartmouth improved to 8-1 with the victory, while Clark dropped to 3-6 with the defeat.
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Plymouth Saturday.
The Cougars will host Springfield Saturday.
