MIT Hands Clark 8-1 Defeat

Cambridge, Mass. – Host MIT posted its second consecutive conference victory following an 8-1 victory over visiting Clark at the DuPont Tennis Courts in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Edwin Zhang and Brian Oldfield won in both the singles and doubles competition, as the Engineers took two out of three doubles matches.

Zhang and Larry Pang won at first doubles 8-4, while Oldfield and Andrew Cooper defeated Aaron Chin and Dan Hall 8-1. The Cougars salvaged their only point at third doubles thanks to an 8-5 win by Bram Smith and Spencer Brightman over Neel Patel and Max Nelson.

It was all MIT in singles play as Zhang won easily 6-1, 6-0 over Diego Angel and Oldfield defeated Harris Rollinger 6-2, 6-3.

Curtis Wu took third singles over Chin 6-0, 6-2 and Vlad Firoiu beat Hall 6-3, 6-2. MIT took the fifth and sixth spots through Troy Astorino (6-0, 6-1) and Robert Wheeler, who defeated George Arno 6-2, 6-1 at sixth singles.

The Engineers improve to 7-1 on the spring season, with a 2-0 conference mark. They will continue a string of four games in four days on Thursday when they host Brandeis University at 4:00 p.m.

The Cougars drop to 1-6 on the season (0-1 NEWMAC) and will play another conference game on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Wheaton.
