Northampton, Mass. – For the second consecutive week, the Clark University women's cross country squad had an excellent showing – this time finishing in fourth place at the 16-team Smith College Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Cougars' top finisher was again Isabel Burgess (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) who paced the Clark contingent with a 15th place showing in a time of 21:04.69 over the 5k layout. She was followed in 19th place by Erika Roth (Saco, Maine) who crossed the line at 21:11.98.
First-year runner Maya Grevatt (Charlotte, Vt.) continues to show promise, finishing third among all Cougar participants in 35th place with a time of 21:57.80.
Heather Goodale (Middletown, Conn.) in 42nd place (22:08.06) and Zoe Greenberg (Arlington, Mass.) in 46th place (22:12.83) rounded out the top five for Clark.
On the men's side, sophomore Nathan Buck (Portland, Maine) continued the extremely impressive beginning to his Clark running career with a 13th place finish at the seven-team Smith College Invitational on Saturday morning.
As a team the Cougars finished in fifth place with a combined score of 140 points. NEWMAC rival Coast Guard, which had five runners finish in the top ten, claimed the team crown, while New England College freshman Makopa Rugabirwa claimed the individual championship with a time of 16:29.90.
Buck covered the 5k course in 17:20.97, and was followed by teammate Robert Gammell (Mattapoisett, Mass.) in 30th place, wrapping up the course in 18:09.13.
Meanwhile, Joe Kennelly (New Windsor, N.Y.) was two spots behind Gammell in 32nd place (18:10.82).
Both Cougar teams are back in action next Saturday when they take part in the UMass-Dartmouth Shriner's Invitational.
