Keene, N.H. – The Clark University
women's cross country team turned in a third place finish with
their top four runners all posting top 20 showings at the annual
Keene State Alumni Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The host Owls won the women's event with four of the top five
finishers, including individual champion All-American Paige Mills
of Keene State who covered the two-mile course in 11:22.
On the men's side, the Cougars finished in eighth place as a
team in the nine team field but got a promising performance from
one its newcomers.
Isabel Burgess (Cumberland Foreside,
Maine) was Clark's top finisher, wrapping up the layout in 13:07,
good for 11th place. She was followed closely by teammate
Erika Roth (Saco, Maine), who finished 14th in
a time of 13:13.
Joining Burgess and Roth in the top 20 were freshman Maya
Grevatt (Charlotte, Vt.) in 16th place (13:27) and
junior Zoe Greenberg (Arlington, Mass.) in
20th (13:45).
For the men, sophomore Nathan
Buck (Portland, Maine), running for the first time as
a Cougar paced the Clark contingent in 18th place with a time of
16:49 over the 5K layout.
Joe Kennelly (New Windsor, N.Y.) was
the next Clark runner to cross the finish line in 36th place with a
time of 17:49. Robert
Gammell (Mattapoisett, Mass.) rounded out the top
three for the Cougars in 45th place (18:43).
Keene State senior Kevin Hoyt claimed the men's individual
championship, wrapping up the course in 15:47.
Both teams will take part in the Smith College Invitational next
Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
