Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Wheaton College, ranked No. 16 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), scored three goals in a seven minute span to roll to a 4-1 win over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Lyons complete the regular season at 15-1-4 overall and third in the NEWMAC with a 7-1-1 ledger.
Clark, meanwhile, sees its six-game winning streak come to an end and wraps up its regular campaign with a 9-8-1 mark and a 5-4 mark in conference action.
Wheaton got on the board in the 21st minute when Julia Cipriano (Middlebury, Conn.) took a feed from Lauren Corigliano (Roselle Park, N.J.) and notched her eight goal of the season.
Five minutes later Cat Amick (Vashon Island, Wash.) deposited her eighth goal of the season when Kelsee Howes (Maynard, Mass.) set her up at 26:38.
Thirty seconds later the Lyons were on the board again, as Cipriano collected her league-leading eighth assist on Amick's second of the day.
The Cougars answered back on a corner kick when Hana Chamoun (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) scored off of an assist from Jenna Zarou (Garden City, N.Y.) at 31:45.
Clark had another opportunity to get on the board when Janelle Pasternack (North Brookfield, Mass.) broke through the Wheaton defense, but her shot was turned back by Taylor Wilson (Bellingham, Mass.).
Jordan Muse (Candia, N.H.) wrapped up the scoring with her first of the season with help from Gabrielle Verde (Miami, Fla.) at 68:09.
The Cougars actually held a 15-12 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Wilson turned back seven shots for Wheaton to remain undefeated in net (7-0-4), while Clark netminder Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) stopped three shots.
Both teams have qualified for the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament. Wheaton, the No. 3 seed will host sixth-seed Wellesley, while the Cougars – seeded fifth – will visit fourth-seeded Babson, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.
