Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University exploded for seven goals by seven different players and the Cougars posted a convincing 7-0 win over Elms College in non-league women's soccer action on a rainy Granger Field Thursday evening.
With the win Clark improves to 4-7-1, while the Blazers have been outscored 11-1 in dropping back-to-back games to fall to 2-8-1.
The seven goals for the Cougars are the most in a game since a 10-0 win over Wheelock College back on September 7, 2003.
Clark got on the board in the 21st minute when Liz Cumberbatch (Austin, Texas) sent a ball into the box that Lucia Pantuosco (Somers, Conn.) tapped home for her second goal of the season.
A little more than three minutes later the Cougars were on the board again, this time courtesy of some excellent passing. Kelsey Ring (Stoneham, Mass.) sent a corner kick in the box that Janelle Pasternack (North Brookfield, Mass.) sent over to Cumberbatch for a 2-0 Clark lead at 23:34.
Charlotte Mays (Melrose, Mass.) took advantage of an Elms miscue to add another score before the half. A goal kick was taken by a Blazer defender, but Mays was able to step in front and dribble into the box and blast home her second of the year at 39:47.
Clark wasted little time getting the scoring going in the second half as Hannah Moriarty (Millbury, Mass.) headed home a Mays corner kick at 53:47.
Less than four minutes later the lead stood at 5-0 when Hayley Zisk (Baldwinville, Mass.) turned back a Cumberbatch shot but Emma Lynch (Pawtucket, R.I.) was there to bang home the rebound.
Hanna Wilson (Irvington, N.Y.) was next to get on the board in the 72nd minute when she took a through ball from Pantuosco and outraced the Blazer defense before putting a shot in the upper right hand corner for her first of the season.
Clark's final goal came when Wilson setup Nikki Feinberg (San Antonio, Texas) with her first collegiate marker at 86:51.
The Cougars held a 17-13 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Blazers, making four saves and giving up three goals before Zisk took over in the final 45 minutes and yielded four goals while making two stops.
Gabby Paolini (North Potomac, Md.) made three saves in her 59 minutes of action before giving way to Audrey Eisemann (Worcester, Mass.), who also made three saves.
Clark will return to action on Saturday when they host NEWMAC foe Wellesley College, while Elms travels to Daniel Webster on Saturday as well.
