Clark Dropped By Pride, 4-1

Springfield, Mass. - Host Springfield College scored four goals in the opening half and went on to defeat Clark University, 4-1, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match this afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field at the Irv Schmid Sports Complex. 

With the win, Springfield upped its overall record to 3-8-1, and its NEWMAC record to 1-2. Clark dropped to 5-7 overall, and 0-3 in the conference.

The Pride wasted little time getting on the board as Zach Dutter and Michael Fowler set up Scott Saucier for a 1-0 lead at 5:54.

Springfield was back at it less than two minutes later when Dutter notched his first of two goals at 7:27 with help from Danny Amato.

Fowler and Dutter teamed up again, this time with Dutter on the receiving end to give the Pride a 3-0 lead at 18:08.

Austin Vico capped the Pride's four-goal afternoon with his tally at 29:59.

Clark got its only goal on an unassisted marker from Vaske Gjino (Worcester, Mass.) at 58:14.

Springfield held a 13-8 edge in shots and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) made four saves in net for the Cougars, while the Pride combination of Brett Bascom and Chris Walton each made one save.

Clark will look to return to the win column on Wednesday when they host Framingham State at 6:00 p.m.
