Cougars Push Past Emerson, 9-0

Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University won its fifth straight match, rolling past future conference foe Emerson College, 9-0, in non-league men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon on the Corash Tennis Courts.

The Cougars, playing in their first match of the spring in New England, improves to 5-1 overall on the season, while the Lions are 0-1.

Clark won all three doubles matches with relative ease, led by 8-0 wins at No. 2 behind Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) and Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.) and Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.) at No. 3.

Singles matches were won by Clark in similar fashion, with the exception at No. 3. Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) dropped the first set to Emerson's Mitchell Lance, 7-5 before rebounding to take the second, 6-0. The third was a back-and-forth battle that Goodstein eventually pulled out, 10-7.

All of the Cougars' other victories came in straight sets, including Burger at No. 4 and Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) at No. 6 winning 6-0, 6-0.

Clark will put its five match winning streak on the line on Friday when they travel across town to take on Division I Holy Cross.
