Cougars Win Seventh Straight With 9-0 Win Over Anchormen

Providence, R.I. – Visiting Clark University extended its winning streak to seven games, registering its second shutout win this spring with a 9-0 decision over Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Courts.

The win for the Cougars – less than 24 hours after their 5-2 win over Division I Holy Cross - improve to 7-1 overall, while the Anchormen dip to 0-4.

The best match of the afternoon came at No. 1 singles as Rhode Island College sophomore Alex Werchadlo and Clark sophomore Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) each split a set, before Stein came away with a tight victory (6-1, 4-6, 1-0, 11-9).

Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Anthony DeFrancesco, while Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) defeated Jason Morin at No. 3 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

Stein and Goodstein were among a handful of Cougars to pick up multiple victories on the afternoon. Stein and Burger were victorious at No. 1 doubles over Werchadlo and sophomore Matt Collins (8-4). Goodstein and junior Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.), who also earned his second win of the day at No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-4), recorded the shutout victory at No. 2 doubles (8-0).

Clark's other singles victories came at No. 4, where Dan Paradee (Gardiner, Maine) registered a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ariel Pezoa-Sir and Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) at No. 5 in his win over Ted James (6-1, 6-0).

The Cougars will put their winning streak on the line on Wednesday when they host Endicott College on Wednesday.
