Kissimmee, Fla. – Powered by a sweep in the doubles matches, Clark University posted a victory in its first match of the spring portion of its schedule with a decisive 8-1 win over Kings (Pa.) College on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) teamed with freshman Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) to post an 8-5 win at No. 1, while sophomores Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.) and Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) collected a 9-8 (7-6) win at No. 2.
The junior tandem of Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.) and Dan Paradee (Gardiner, Maine) completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at third singles.
Clark was also in control on the singles side with Angel (No. 1), Stein (No. 2), Paradee (No. 5) and Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) at No. 6 all posting easy straight set wins.
Freshman Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) had a tough time with Kings' Jake Rohring, but eventually came out on top at No. 4 (6-3, 7-5), while the Monarch's lone victory came at No. 3 singles where Tony Benevino took down Goodstein, 6-3, 6-1.
Clark (1-1) will return to action on Wednesday when they face Saint Mary's College (Minn.) at 1:00 p.m.
