Cougars Win Second Straight, 6-3

Orlando, Fla. – After dropping two of the three doubles matches, the Clark University men's tennis team rebounded and won five of the six singles matches and won its second straight contest, 6-3 over Saint Mary's University on Wednesday afternoon.

Diego Angel (Lima, Peru) and Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) pushed the Cardinals' combination of Michael Lunka and Bobby Steingraeber, but fell 9-7 at No. 1 and Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) couldn't keep up with Sam Puff and Andrew Rangitsch at No. 2, 8-6.

Clark's lone victory in doubles action came at No. 3, where Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.) and Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.) took down Gavin Smith and Justin Loeffler, 8-5.

Things changed drastically for the Cougars in singles action as Angel posted a 6-0, 3-0 (retired) win over Lunka at No. 1 and Stein went straight sets over Steingraeber, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.

Puff gave SMU their only win in singles play when he knocked off Goodstein, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).

Clark wrapped up the day with straight set wins by Burger at No. 4, Dan Paradee (Gardiner, Maine) at No. 5 and Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) at No. 6.

Thursday will be a challenging day for Clark (2-1) as the face Colby-Sawyer at 8:00 a.m. and then wrap up their trip with Ursinus at 6:30 p.m.
