Nine Lives! Clark Downs Gordon, 8-1

Wenham, Mass. — Visiting Clark University won its ninth straight match, rolling to an 8-1 win over host Gordon College in non-league men's tennis action on Monday afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Cougars improve to an impressive 9-1 in advance of their showdown with MIT on Wednesday, while the Scots slip to 1-9.

In doubles play, Dan Stein (Newton, Mass.) and Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn.) along with Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio) and Dan Hall (Sutton, Mass.) posted dominant performances at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively, as both pairs captured 8-2 wins to start the outing for the Cougars.

Following them with a commanding win were teammates Phillip Porter (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) and Spencer Brightman (Sudbury, Mass.) at No. 3, who bested Gordon's Mike Muthersbaugh (Troy, N.Y.) and Greg Dry (Madison, Conn.) to leave the Scots trailing 3-0 heading into singles play.

And though Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) battled to a three-set win over Goodstein at No. 2 singles, it turned out to be the Scots' lone win of the day.

The Cougars got straight set wins from everyone else, including 6-1, 6-0 wins from Dan Paradee (Gardiner, Maine), Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn.) and Hall, at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Clark will play host to the Engineers on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. while the Scots look to break their three-match skid as they host non-conference Salem State on Thursday.
